The Call

Our journey takes us through a remarkable five-thousand-year span of this magical Celtic land, where we'll discover some of the secrets of enigmatic stone circles, holy wells’ potent waters, medieval cathedrals, castles, and the powerful earth energy currents that connect them all. We'll explore what it means to be on a quest for your own Holy Grail. Your expert guides will distill the essence of our ancestors’ beliefs, spirituality, myths, legends, and history, guide you through this enchanted land, and share some of the Wisdom of the Ages with you.

The Journey

Our journey starts in Winchester, climbing St Catherine’s Hill, where multiple energy currents converge, before flowing down into the ancient capital city of England. We’ll have an opening ceremony in the sacred grove of trees on top of the hill, after preparing ourselves by walking the labyrinth. We’ll visit the 900-year-old Winchester Cathedral and hear about the energetic properties and sacred geometry of Gothic architecture. A walk around the city will reveal some surprising power centres and lead us to the thirteenth-century Arthurian Round Table. St Cross Hospital (a place of hospitality), where knights visited before embarking on a crusade, still operates as it has done since being founded by Henri de Blois, the old wizard of Winchester!

We then move hotels to spend two nights on dramatic Dartmoor. From here, we will visit Tintagel and the castle ruins that sit atop the cliffs marking the legendary birthplace of King Arthur. There have been few more evocative and appealing stories throughout history than that of the young warrior king.

With its call to the noble, the romantic, the courageous, and the spiritual seeker in each of us, how can we fail to be drawn to this legend?

By walking this land on our own Grail Quest, we find answers, often in the most unlikely of places.

It may be down below on the beach in Merlin’s Cave, accessible only at low tide, or it may well be at Dozmary Pool, the home of the Lady of the Lake, where we each receive a gift from the Lady.

Finally, we head northeast to Salisbury, our base for the final four nights, from where we will make day trips to exciting destinations. We will visit the spiritual mecca of Glastonbury, including the Abbey, Chalice Well, and the Tor.

Salisbury, the world-famous medieval cathedral city, where we visit the cathedral and Old Sarum. The world-famous Stonehenge has many secrets to share during our private out-of-hours special access. We explore Avebury Landscape Temple, including the largest stone circle in the world, its serpentine avenues, the massive and enigmatic Silbury Hill, and the underground initiatory chamber of West Kennet Long Barrow.

Itinerary
Day 1 – Fri, May 22nd

This morning, you’ll be met at London Heathrow Airport and driven to our hotel in Winchester for a two-night stay. You'll have time to rest up or take lunch and then explore this historic city. There is a good range of shops, cafes, restaurants, markets and pubs readily available as our hotel is situated close to the city centre.

We'll gather before dinner to have an orientation meeting to get to know one another a little and to set our intentions for the journey ahead before our welcome dinner at the hotel.

Day 2 – Sat, May 23rd

We’ll start our adventure together with a climb up St Catherine’s Hill. Here we’ll discover a grass-cut labyrinth, a crossing point (node) of the Elen & Belinus earth energy currents, and a former pagan sacred grove of trees. From the top of the hill, we can look down over the city and see St Cross Hospital and the energized water meadows.

Having worked up an appetite, we'll have lunch at the Cathedral Refectory, followed by a walk around the city, where we'll find one of the most glorious cities in Britain. It was once the royal and capital city of England during the reign of King Alfred. A walk through its streets is a walk through a living museum with architecture from many periods of history, dating back to Roman times. The thirteenth-century Great Hall, part of the old castle, houses the Arthurian Round Table, the fifteenth-century Buttercross stands next to a Tudor dwelling, and Winchester College, the oldest school in England, has educated children since 1382 and continues to do so. But, of course, the focal point of the city is the 900-year-old cathedral, one of the finest in Europe. We’ll see Romanesque and Gothic styles of architecture side by side, and learn about their importance.

Day 3 – Sun, May 24th
This morning, we'll depart our hotel and just out of town, the river leads to St. Cross Hospital, a medieval almshouse founded in 1136 and still occupied and functioning in the same manner over 850 years later. This represents Winchester very well, a thriving and prosperous city with an unparalleled past which is woven into the very fabric of modern-day life.. Here we will connect with the energy of the knights who set out on their quest from here. We’ll receive the Wayfarer’s Dole that pilgrims have been blessed with for nine hundred years to fortify us on our journey.

On our journey west, we'll stop for lunch, then travel down to the western border of Dartmoor to our hotel for two nights. En route to our hotel, we will go to Dozmary Pool, where we come into the presence of the Lady of the Lake at her mystical and watery home. It was at this lake that the lady bequeathed Excalibur and its enchanted scabbard to King Arthur. Understanding the importance of this gift and paying tribute to the lady will enable us to receive a gift of our own to support us on our pilgrimage.

Day 4 – Mon, May 25th

Today, we visit Tintagel, the renowned birthplace of King Arthur. All sites in Tintagel are dominated by everything Arthurian, and you’ll have the opportunity to re-live the stories of the Arthurian legend as we walk in their footsteps.

Traveling back in time, we may discover how these archetypes can help us in our world today. We’ll hear the stories of the Arthurian legend and about the lives of the fabled Knights of the Round Table as we visit King Arthur’s Great Halls, constructed entirely of crystal-studded granite using sacred geometry in its layout.

Free time to explore the shops in Tintagel and have lunch.

Then we cross the footbridge that is now the only means of access to Tintagel Castle, the fabled birthplace of Arthur, which sits in splendid isolation on its rocky promontory. Descending the castle cliffs to the beach below, we’ll enter the otherworldly Merlin’s Cave, accessible only for a short time at low tide each day.

(Order of the day may change according to the tide schedule.) After a full day immersed in the Arthurian Legend, we will return to our hotel for the night.

Day 5 – Tues, May 26th

Before leaving our hotel, you'll have the opportunity to visit the Tavistock Pannier Market, as townspeople and visitors have been doing for hundreds of years.

After lunch, we'll begin our journey east,  stopping at Cadbury Castle, where Arthur and Guinevere held court during the halcyon days of Camelot

Arriving in Salisbury, we'll check into our hotel, the oldest inn in the city, where the masons who built Salisbury Cathedral were housed!

Day 6 – Wed, May 27th

We will spend this day in mystical Glastonbury, on the legendary Isle of Avalon. We start our visit at St. Margaret's Chapel, commonly known as the Magdalene Chapel. This twelfth-century chapel and almshouses are an oasis of peace and an ideal place to connect with the spiritual energies of Glastonbury.

We will visit Glastonbury Abbey, once the largest and most powerful abbey in all of Britain and the reputed resting place of King Arthur and Guinevere. Here we find the powerful Michael and Mary Earth Energy currents, that we will also meet in Avebury.

We have a long lunch break to allow time to explore the myriad of alternative shops such as ‘Man, Myth & Magik’  or ‘The Goddess & the Green Man’.

Rising dramatically from the flat land of the surrounding Somerset Levels, the Tor has been a beacon of spirituality since pagan times and still acts as a magnet for people of all beliefs. You will hear the stories and the legends as well as experience the powerful energy and atmosphere of this sacred site. The views from the top are spectacular!

At its foot lies Chalice Well, a true healing place in this land, and you are encouraged to drink from the holy well where, a local story tells, the Holy Grail is hidden.

Day 7 – Thurs, May 28th

We start our day with an unforgettable exclusive visit to Stonehenge, where we will have private time at this sacred site. We have arranged for the group to have early morning out-of-hours special access inside the stones of the world's most famous sacred site. We will have a ceremony to connect with Spirit and the land. Stand amongst the huge megaliths which have stood in magnificent isolation on the windswept Salisbury Plain for thousands of years, feel the pulse of powerful earth energy currents coursing beneath your feet. Imagine the ceremonies that have been performed by robed priests and priestesses over eons of time, or just sit in meditation. This is a rare opportunity to truly experience a site revered by countless generations.

After breakfast back at the hotel, we'll visit Old Sarum, the ruined remains of the original city that later moved a mile down the valley to become Salisbury. Stonehenge, Old Sarum and Salisbury all lie on a leyline empowered by Earth energies that are still present, and we can connect with them.

Lunch in the medieval cathedral cloisters is a treat for the senses.

After lunch we'll explore Salisbury Cathedral.  This medieval Gothic wonder has the tallest spire in England, the oldest working clock, incredible history and Magna Carta in the Chapter House.

Free-choice dinner not included

Day 8 – Fri, May 29th

After breakfast, we visit the Avebury Landscape Temple, the heart centre of megalithic Britain. Knoll Down, a tranquil sacred grove of trees, is the ‘tail’ of the Serpent Temple and was once connected to Avebury by an avenue of stones stretching for a mile and a quarter. A similar avenue led off in another direction culminating at The Sanctuary, the ‘head’ of the Serpent Temple.

We will enter Avebury as did our ancestors down this processional avenue of stones. Here, within the largest stone circle in the world, we find the remains of two smaller stone circles, one solar and one lunar. This place has a remarkable story to tell! We meet up with the energies of the St Michael leyline that we met in Glastonbury. All the sacred sites in this area centre on Avebury, including Stonehenge, some twenty miles distant.

Close by Avebury is the largest manmade mound in Europe, the remarkable five-thousand-year-old Silbury Hill, mysteriously constructed at the bottom of a valley. We will discuss why we think our ancestors constructed such an enormous monument and what it was used for.. Across the field is the oldest structure in this whole complex of sacred sites, West Kennett Longbarrow. This acoustically resonant stone-covered chamber, often referred to by archeologists as a burial chamber, was obviously so much more than that.
