MALTA'S MEDITERRANEAN TEMPLES

June 26-30, 2019

A short stand-alone tour or the perfect add-on to the Greece tour

An awakening of our soul connection to some of the world’s oldest temples and the Spirit of Place on this sun-kissed Mediterranean island

Tour will include

  • Explore Malta's ancient temples
  • Enjoy it's unique culture
  • Visit historic buildings and cities
  • Swim in the Mediterranean & boat ride to the Blue Grotto
  • Benefit from the wisdom of local guides
  • Travel with experienced tour leaders

Imagine going back in time over six thousand years to the Island of Malta where honey coloured temples were built on green-carpeted land, under sunny blue skies and surrounded by crystal-clear azure seas. The design of the temples, their underground chambers and figurines that were found, all indicate that they were dedicated to the goddess. There is evidence that there were up to forty temples built on these small islands over a span of two thousand years. This would have been a powerful celebration of the abundance of Mother Nature. Are you called to explore with us the yearning that connects us to our ancestors to honour the Great Mystery that these Maltese Islands invoke?

Hal Saflieni Hypogeum, Tarxien, Mnajdra and Hagar Qim are the best-preserved examples of this temple culture. The tiny island of Malta still has dozens of these Neolithic sacred sites, all of which pre-date Stonehenge and the Pyramids. You will have the opportunity to explore these truly ancient sites and make a conscious connection with their powerful energies and the Spirit of Place, guided by your tour facilitators. Through ritual and ceremony we will make our connection to a time when beauty, peace, creativity & spiritual expression flourished.

Malta’s central location in the middle of the Mediterranean made this small island country an important gateway to Europe, Africa and the East. As such it was successively occupied by numerous invaders whose legacy is still visible in the wonderfully varied architecture of its towns, churches and temples. Despite being invaded so frequently the Maltese people have always had an international reputation for their warm hospitality.

This generosity of spirit combined with the responsive energies of the land creates an unconditional welcome; the natural beauty, the sea and the sunshine also contribute to raise your spirits and set the scene for an unparalleled and transformational experience. Be prepared for your heart to be opened. As we visit the various sites we will make a conscious connection with the powerful energies of the land and learn how they respond to our attention. We feel that these positive relationships with the Earth, especially at power centers, are necessary and beneficial in the pivotal times of change in which we live.

MALTA'S MEDITERRANEAN TEMPLES

Day 1-   Wed June 26th

Collection from Malta International Airport at 3:15pm.

On our way to our hotel in Saint Paul's Bay we'll visit the town of Mdina in the centre of the island, considered to be one of the most beautiful examples of an inhabited citadel in Europe. Explore its labyrinth of narrow winding pedestrian streets and get a feel for the island of Malta as you enjoy the panoramic views from the city ramparts. We'll have an opportunity to connect with the island from this central location.

After checking into our hotel we'll gather for an orientation.

Dinner at hotel

Day 2 - Thurs June 27th

This morning we take a ride in small boats from Wied iz-Zurrieq along the rocky southern coastline visiting the many flooded caves including the Blue Grotto cave. We have planned to be there at the special time when the light penetrates furthest into the caves. Inside the rock is tinted pink, mauve or orange by coral and minerals and the water can change colour from indigo and navy to fluorescent azure and emerald according to the light.

Today we'll visit  the goddess temples of Malta,  Hagar Qim and Mnajdra temple complexes which are five and a half thousand years old. Situated overlooking the azure sea these are spectacular sites to visit. We will also discover a huge ‘ringing stone’ where we'll connect with the island and its Ancient Temples.

We complete the day in the picturesque fishing village of Marsaxlokk where you can relax sitting on the dock among the colourful fishing boats and have an early dinner in one of the restaurants on the waterfront.

Free choice dinner not included

Day 3 - Fri June 28th

Today we explore the capital city of Valletta. Important places of interest include:

  • St. John’s Co-cathedral, the magnificent church of the Knights Hospitallers
  • Magnificent views of Grand Harbour from the elevated Barakka Gardens
  • Archeology Museum housing some of the statuettes and artifacts found at the temples
  • Auberge de Castille one of Valletta’s finest old buildings and now the official residence of the Prime Minister
  • The Sacra Infermeria the original hospital of the Knights

This sixteenth century walled city is best explored on foot and many of its streets are narrow or pedestrian. Being a small city perched on the rocks above the harbour it is a joy to discover palaces, churches, piazzas and glorious views round the next corner. Lovers of architecture will be in heaven here.

See the largest harbour in Europe from the best vantage point - on the water, with a ninety minute afternoon boat trip around the Grand Harbour. This affords excellent views of the fortified cites of Valetta and the ‘Three Cites’ on either sides of the harbour.

Free choice dinner not included

Day 4 - Sat June 29th

We start the day with visiting an active Christian church, Mosta Dome, the third largest unsupported dome or rotunda in Europe (after St. Peter’s in Rome and St. Paul’s in London). The pattern on the ceiling is influenced by sacred geometry, look at the patterns in the floor tiles as well.

We will also visit two of the oldest temples on the island – Ta’ Hagrat and Skorba. These are good places for making a personal connection to the temples through meditation.

After lunch we visit the Hal Saflieni temples at Tarxien including the world-famous Hypogeum. We will be guided through what is the most complete temple on Malta, an underground complex that is undamaged and truly atmospheric.

Farewell dinner included

Day 5 - Sun June 30th
